One Book, One School is Beginning!

9/21/2024 10:54 pm

One Book, One School is back! This year we will be reading Marina and the Kraken, an illustrated fantasy by Lauren Magaziner. Full of action, adventure, and friendship, a team of five girls must stop a powerful villain by finding their mythical familiars! (Click here for a short book trailer). The books should be coming home with your youngest Prospect child on Monday, 9/23.

We are also thrilled to announce that author Lauren Magaziner will be visiting Prospect for student assemblies AND at our Family Reading Night on Oct. 24th!

What is One Book, One School? It is a program designed to create a shared reading experience within a school community, while encouraging the habit of family reading. Every Prospect family receives the same book to read together at home. Our schedule (coming with your book) suggests you read about 30 pages a week, which can build the habit of reading together. However, do what works for your family! We hope that your family will simply enjoy reading together.

Children of all ages can benefit from hearing a story read aloud. Research shows that hearing a story read aloud sharpens the imagination, promotes comprehension and vocabulary, and helps children love reading. Additionally, when families read together, it strengthens their emotional bonds and helps provide positive parent-child connections essential to a child’s psychological health and academic growth.*
