Community Speaker Series Presents Dr. Aliza Pressman

Registration is now open for the first event of the Community Speaker Series season! We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Aliza Pressman to share her parenting expertise with our community. Whether you are in the trenches with a toddler or a teen, this event is for you.

There will be an evening presentation and a morning presentation to accommodate our audience. Both events will be held in person at The Community House. The events are free and open to all.

This year, local businesses are being invited to support the CSS as community partners by providing hospitality at the CSS events. Our first community partners are Cafe La Fortuna and Gone Grazy. Both have generously offered to provide refreshments at our October events. Come out to connect, learn and enjoy!

Save the date for Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 24th from 6-8pm! Celebrate the culmination of One Book One School by visiting centers around the school, including meeting author of The Mythics: Marina and the Krakken, Lauren Magaziner, see real reptiles, build a mini-boat, fish for words, learn about octopi, shop the book fair and MORE!

Calling all creatives! Make your own “Familiar” animal!

What would your animal or your family’s animal be? We are looking for families to build your own “familiar” to display as a part of Family Reading Night. Create your realistic or mythical animal out of anything you’d like: paper, legos, craft kits, posterboard, cardboard boxes or recycled goods - make it as big or as small as you like! All submissions should be delivered to school on Monday, October 21st and it will be displayed in the foyer leading up to Family Reading Night on Thursday, October 24th. Battle of the Books Club

Battle of the Books Club will be starting at the end of October! This club is open to 4th and 5th grade students. Club members will work in teams to answer questions about the 20 books from the Battle of the Books list. The Prospect team that earns the most points throughout the club meetings will compete against the other D181 elementary schools at the District Battle of the Books in February. An information letter and permission form went home with 4th and 5th grade students last week, and can also be found here.
