Holiday Toy/Gift Card Drive For Hope Children's Hospital

12/14/2024 11:49 am

It has been a long tradition at Prospect School to collect toys for the Pediatric Cardiology and Oncology Departments at Hope Children's Hospital. With the help of Kelly Awick, retired Prospect Teacher, it is our great pleasure to continue this tradition.

The hospital is only able to accept NEW toys in original packaging due to the fragile state of the patients. We are also collecting and delivering Amazon and Target gift cards to the hospital to help families whose children are hospitalized this holiday season.

Toys can be dropped off in the Prospect School Lobby, Mrs. Nolin's Room 114 or Mrs. Matt's Room 206. Gift cards can be turned it to the Office, Mrs. Nolin or Mrs. Matt.

The last day of collection in Friday, December 20th.

Creating lifelong artists by teaching realistic drawing and artistic methods using professional materials and then connecting, through an open art studio format, to the most powerful force on earth, a child’s imagination. We take 2D shapes to 3D shapes to personalized objects to gain fundamental skills + creative confidence.

Teaching centered around a custom-printed ArtCard written by Maureen. 15 minutes of technical drawing skills + 45 minute open art studio with high quality art supplies. We end with circle talk, where the children learn to talk about their artistic process.

Please note, our winter/spring curriculum furthers the skills learned in our fall curriculum - completely new material for students who were enrolled in the fall, while new students can jump in with our exploration of taking ovals to cylinders and triangles to pyramids!

Included in tuition:
- A take-home sketchbook
- Zippered canvas bag with a pencil, eraser, and Sharpie
- All classroom supplies (professional art materials)
- Weekly custom ArtCards

We create a universe of Yes with positivity and encouragement for our students. We foster any artistic path the children want to follow and they gain confidence, new skills, and a new understanding along the way.

If you happen to be cleaning toy boxes before the holidays please consider donating items to the Physical Education teachers! They are looking for: beanie babies, teenie babies, silicone wristbands, twister game boards, connect four games, ball pit balls, remote controlled cars, Melissa and Doug puzzles (24,48, and 100 piece even if pieces are missing!) tennis balls, playing cards, and play money. Not sure if you have an item they could use- please email them and ask! lduffy@d181.org or kconway@d181.org. You would be surprised at the many activities they create with "household" items!

Kristin Cummings Receives Administrator of the Year Award

12/7/2024 8:43 pm

Principal Kristin Cummings was recognized at the local and state level as an Outstanding Administrator this fall from the Illinois Association for Physical Education, Health, Recreation and Dance.

Administrators are nominated by their Physical Education teachers for their continuing support of quality PE programs in their schools.

Kristin has supported the addition of many new programs at Prospect including the Chicago Bears Day, our Glow-Ga yoga event, additional funds and support for field day and whatever crazy ideas our amazing PE teachers (Ms. Duffy and Mrs. Conway) can dream up!

Congratulations Kristin on receiving these two awards. Only four administrators received this honor this year!

Holiday Bazaar is this Thursday, 12/12

12/7/2024 8:39 pm

Bring your kids to shop at the annual Prospect Holiday Bazaar which will be held on Thursday, 12/12 from 4-6pm. Students can shop for their family members at the bazaar, including their pets!

The Holiday Bazaar committee is excited to host another Holiday Bazaar, and we look forward to helping the kids find the perfect gifts for their loved ones. Due to our commitment to providing quality gifts (and inflation), the cost of gifts has been adjusted from a maximum of $5 to $10. There will be gifts priced at varying prices up to $10. This allows us to continue offering a variety of thoughtful and durable items, ensuring each child finds something special. We appreciate your support as we work to make this event a memorable and enjoyable experience for everyone.

Cash payments are preferred, though credit cards are also accepted for your convenience.

The Clarendon Hills Infant Welfare will be selling luminaria kits. Each kit is $8 and contains 5 bags and 5 candles. This is a long-standing tradition in Clarendon Hills; even airline pilots have reported they could see Clarendon Hills glowing from above. Take advantage of grabbing your kits at the bazaar.
